According to tradition, Christianity arrived in Britain in the first or second century. It existed independently of the church of Rome as did many other Christian communities of that era. The earliest historical evidence of an organised Christian Church is found in writings in the first years of the third century. The cross in it's many different forms still symbolises Christianity throughout the world today.
