The Tudor Rose is the traditional floral heraldic emblem of England. When Henry VII (before accession known as Henry Tudor) took the crown of England from Richard III in battle, he brought about the end of the Wars of the Roses. With his marriage to Elizabeth of York, the unification of the house of Lancaster (whose emblem was a red rose) and house of York (whose emblem was a white rose) was represented by conjoining the two roses.
